What is The Profit of Our Keeping God’s Charge
Here are grievous words spoken by the LORD our God … You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God. What is the profit of our keeping his charge.’ (Malachi 3:14)
Jubilee … when we seek to imitate the world … are we not speaking those same words with our lives. Are we not proclaiming a love for worldliness over a pursuit of and trust in our great God? Israel was looking at the world and beginning to love the world … beginning to live for the purpose of life as defined by the world … a focus on selfish ambition and personal gain.
But a few … those who feared the Lord (3:16) … gathered together to encourage truth and trust … and the results were overwhelming … the Lord paid attention and heard them. And then he promised that they would be his treasured possession (3:17), and they would be used to once again display the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not serve him. (3:18)
Jubilee … we were created for God … to display his righteousness … knowing his greatness (1:5) … living in his kingdom reign (1:14) … encouraging one another to be a generation that is faithful to our purpose in belonging to him (2:15). And his promise is to be our God … one who brings healing and great joy (4:2) … one who acts to destroy what is against him (4:3) … one who restores the glorious purpose for our lives lived out in the family of community (4:6).
Be a people of the book, Jubilee! Remember … think … set your mind on the things above where Christ is … knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. (ICor 15:58)
