One aspect of Psalm 19 on which we did not get to dwell is verse 11. The sweetness of belonging to a Father in heaven who cares about us is his determination to keep us mindful of the deceitfulness of our own hearts: moreover, by them is your servant warned. The life of God growing in the lives of God’s people brings us moment by moment to places of repentance for the wandering of our hearts toward a self-centered focus in life. But God is so gracious to be continually warning us of the self-destructive danger of sin. He wants us to thrive and know the refreshment, wisdom, joy, clear-sightedness, reward, and deep fulfillment offered to us in his life.
The Apostle John saw this life of God perfectly displayed in Jesus and calls us to join with him in living this same life, through repentance and dependence, that we might know the joy of fellowship with God and with one another.
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us – that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. (1 John 1:1-4)
In keeping them there is great reward.
Pursuing life with Jesus along with you!
