God Is Light, Walk In The Light
God is light, and everyone who claims to fellowship with him must walk in the light. But what does it mean to walk in the light? Light dispels the darkness of sin, so to walk in the light is to live a life of obedience, not hiding sin but confessing sin in hopes of God’s promised forgiveness and living a life of obedience to God. Those who walk in the light do not conceal their sins. It is foolish to try to hide our sins, because, as Moses says, God has set every secret sin in the light of his presence. “You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence” (Ps 90:8).
If every sin, secret or not, is set in God’s presence, what are we do with our sins? First, we must acknowledge our sins. If we claim to be without sin, we blaspheme and call God a liar, since he has clearly taught in his word that all men have sinned against him. Second, we must not hide them because they cannot be hidden from God. Attempting to hide sin that cannot be hidden devours you from within. David says about his sin, “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long” (Ps 32:3). Third, we must confess to God. God has promised that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). After confessing to God, confess it to a trusted brother, sister, or group and ask for their prayers (Jas 5:14). Fourth, trust your Advocate, Jesus, who pleads for you before the Father, Jesus the Messiah by whose blood God has forgiven all our sins.
Let us walk in the Light.
