Christ’s Return – Motivation for Holiness
318. Do you remember what that number referred to from Pastor Toph’s message? It must be important because 318 is a significant number for something to be mentioned over the 27 books of the New Testament. If someone said something to you 318 times, it would make sense for you to pay close attention to what is meaningful to them. As essential as baptism and the Lord’s Supper are to our faith and the proclamation of gospel truth, they are not mentioned 318 times. 318 refers to what Pastor Toph called the main root that supplies motivation for our holiness — the second coming of Christ. It would be good for your soul to take some time this week to let your heart steep in the massive reality of Christ’s return. Ponder anew the gravitas that the New Testament affords to that day. Let your heart be encouraged and spurred on to good works in light of the joy of that day. Think of a strategy to share the gospel with an unbelieving friend due to the fierceness of that day. Pray and ask our Father to keep that day on the front line of your thinking. Three hundred eighteen mentions of a topic demand our attention.
Waiting together by grace,
